Update for December 31, 2009 – Lunar Eclipse - Full Moon in Cancer

Lunar Eclipse - FULL MOON IN Cancer

What a way to start a New Year! This Lunar Eclipse in Cancer straddles New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, depending on where you're located. If you're in the Americas or (roughly) west of Afghanistan, it's on Dec.31.2010. If you're east of there, it's on Jan.01.2010. So this Lunar Eclipse marks the turn of the day, the month, the year, and even the decade!

This is a season when we are encouraged to be giving, caring and empathic toward the needs of others. It can also be an emotional time when our feelings are closer to the surface and more apt to get jangled by the stress that abounds at this time of year. We usually have a Full Moon in Cancer around this time of year, although not usually a Lunar Eclipse.

There's a powerful line-up of planets at the eclipse. There is a Stellium in Capricorn, including Mercury retrograde conjunct the North Node. The Capricorn Sun is conjunct Venus and Pluto, and the 3 of them opposite the Moon, while Saturn t-squares them. With the infamous Saturn-Pluto square being pulled into the Lunar Eclipse, we're being challenged to find a deeper, more personal expression for the discipline, power and authority that Saturn-Pluto require.

It's also about taking responsibility for our emotional and subtle motives and agendas. This is a time when you can gain deep insight into the hidden undercurrents beneath what you need, what you give to others and what you expect as a result of both.

Mercury continues his Retrograde Rumba in Capricorn until mid-January. This retrograde cycle is mercifully short – only 3 weeks instead of the average 3.5 Anyone notice the usual Mercury retrograde delays, frustration and befuddlement? Or maybe you just thought it was the typical holiday chaos? Yes, to all the above! Leave lots of time to get wherever you're going on New Year's Eve; rushing through traffic, or even just rushing to the refrigerator, is an invitation for accidents and mistakes. Please – drive carefully and drive sober or use a designated driver.

Depending on where you are located, your calendar might tell you this Lunar Eclipse is a Blue Moon – or, if you're roughly east of Afghanistan, it may tell you the Jan.30 Full Moon in a Blue Moon.
